Message from the Principal
Established in 1991 by the Manjara Charitable Trust, our college has long been a leading institution for higher education in the region. This institution was founded by visionary leader, Late Shri Vilasraoji Deshmukh, a distinguished statesman, whose collective efforts laid the foundation for an institution committed to academic excellence and social development.
Affiliated to Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) since 2005, Smt. Sushiladevi Deshmukh Senior College has earned a solid reputation for its academic rigor and contribution to higher education. Our college proudly received a B++ grade (2.80 CGPA) in the second cycle of NAAC accreditation in 2017, underscoring our continuous efforts to uphold high standards in teaching, learning, and research. In addition, we were honoured with the Best College Award (Urban) for the academic year 2019-2020 by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, and our Principal was recognized with the Best Principal Award (Urban) in 2021-2022.
Our institution is a mono-faculty college, specializing in Arts, and is strategically located on a sprawling 6.08-acre campus on the outskirts of Latur city. Over the years, we have built a robust infrastructure, including an Indoor Sports Hall, funded through our own resources and constructed under the UGC Sports Training Facilities Scheme. This enables us to provide a holistic educational experience that integrates academics with extracurricular and physical development.
The college has a strong academic foundation, with 12 of our 18 faculty members holding Ph.D. degrees, and 9 faculties recognized as Research Guides. This emphasis on scholarly excellence is complemented by our commitment to research and publication, with our faculty contributing over 227 research papers in the last four years. We strongly encourage and support faculty engagement in research activities, ensuring that our teaching is informed by the latest developments in the field.
Our commitment to social responsibility is equally evident through the active involvement of our NSS unit in community service. Notably, the NSS unit has adopted the crematorium (Smashanbhumi) at Khadgaon village, fostering a spirit of community engagement and social awareness among our students. This initiative aligns with our broader vision of nurturing socially responsible citizens who are at tuned to the needs of society.
